Why Google Suspends Doba Stores (and How to Fix It)
If you're running a Shopify store powered by Doba and your Google Merchant Center account just got suspended, you're not alone. Doba stores have one of the highest suspension rates on Google Shopping — and it's not because the products are bad. It's because the store looks like a dropshipping operation to Google's algorithms.
In this guide, we'll show you exactly why Google flags Doba stores and how to fix every issue.
What Is Doba and Why Does Google Care?
Doba is a dropshipping supplier aggregator. It connects Shopify merchants with manufacturers who ship products directly to customers. The products are real, the shipping is from US warehouses, and the business model is legitimate.
The problem? When you import products from Doba's app into Shopify, it leaves digital fingerprints everywhere. Google's algorithms are trained to detect these fingerprints, and when they find enough of them, they trigger a misrepresentation suspension.
The 8 Doba Fingerprints Google Detects
1. Fulfillment Service: "doba-app-location"
Every product imported via Doba's Shopify app has its fulfillment service set to doba-app-location. This appears in your product data and is visible in your Shopify export CSV. Google's crawlers can see this in your store's structured data.
Fix: Change all fulfillment services to manual in your product CSV.
2. SKU Prefix: "D0102"
Doba assigns SKUs starting with D0102 followed by a random string. This prefix is unique to Doba and is a dead giveaway. Worse, many SKUs end with -as Pic — another supplier fingerprint.
Fix: Replace the D0102 prefix with your own brand prefix (e.g., "OMM" for OhMidMod). Remove all "-as Pic" suffixes.
3. Option Values: "As Pic" and "Default Title"
Instead of real color names like "Walnut Brown" or "Navy Blue," Doba imports set variant options to "as Pic," "as picture," "as show," or "Default Title." These are classic dropship signals.
Fix: Replace every generic option value with the actual color, size, or material name.
4. Vendor Field: "Doba"
At least some products will have "Doba" as the vendor. Even if you change most to your brand name, one missed product is enough for Google to flag the entire catalog.
Fix: Set Vendor to your brand name on every single product. No exceptions.
5. Competitor Brand Names in URL Handles
When Doba imports products, the URL handle often includes the manufacturer's brand name: manhattan-comfort-liberty-desk, vevor-rattan-tv-stand. These URLs tell Google you're reselling branded products without authorization.
Fix: Rewrite all handles to remove competitor brand names. This is one of the most overlooked issues.
6. Spec-Dump Descriptions
Doba product descriptions look like this: Specification: LTL:Yes, Main Color:Brown, Main Material:Solid Wood. This format is identical across thousands of Doba-powered stores. Google fingerprints this content.
Fix: Rewrite every description with real product copy — intro paragraph, key features, specs table, shipping info, and care instructions.
7. Inventory Policy: "Deny"
Doba sets inventory policy to "deny" (don't track stock). Combined with other fingerprints, this signals to Google that you have no real inventory relationship with the products.
Fix: Change to "continue" (sell even when out of stock) or better, track actual inventory.
8. Missing Product Data
Doba imports leave Google Shopping Category, Product Type, SEO Title, and SEO Description completely empty. 100% of products with zero categorization is a strong signal of bulk import without curation.
Fix: Fill in every field. Google Shopping Category, Product Type, unique SEO titles (under 60 chars), unique SEO descriptions (under 155 chars).
The Fix: A Complete Catalog Overhaul
You can't just fix one or two of these issues. Google looks at the whole picture. If you fix the vendor field but leave "doba-app-location" in fulfillment and "D0102" in SKUs, you'll still get flagged.
The fix is systematic: export your products as CSV, run every field through a compliance check, fix everything, and reimport. That's exactly what Unblockr's audit does — it checks all 146+ GMC criteria and tells you what to fix.
After the Fix: What to Expect
Once you've cleaned your catalog, wait 48-72 hours for Google to recrawl your site, then submit your appeal. Most Doba stores that do a thorough cleanup get reinstated within 1-2 weeks.
The key word is "thorough." Partial fixes get denied. Google reviewers check your entire site during appeal review.
